Major Health Partners Second Floor Buildout
After almost 100 years of serving the citizens of Shelby County at their downtown Shelbyville location, Major Health Partners constructed a replacement hospital in the Intelliplex Park. When the downtown hospital was built, more than 70% of patient care was provided to hospital-admitted patients. Now, more than 75% of their services are delivered in an outpatient setting. In order to consolidate services and facilitate these contemporary patient care trends, the new Medical Center was designed with outpatient services on the first floor, physician offices on the second floor, and patient rooms on the third floor.
Major Health Partners contracted ARTEKNA as the Architect for approximately 70,824 square feet of physician office space on the second floor of the new facility. These practices include Advanced Surgical Associates, MHP Family and Internal Medicine, MHP Medical Specialists, MHP Disease Management Clinic, MHP OB/GYN, MHP Pediatrics, MHP Nephrology and Infectious Disease, and Indianapolis Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
In order to accommodate future flexibility, the entire floor was designed utilizing a clinic module concept. The module size was 8’-11” x 10’-10” which also coordinated with the structural grid. All exam rooms, offices, support space, etc., were based on derivatives of the module size, making future reconfigurations simpler and less costly. Furthermore, in order to bring natural light into the center of the building, a series of clerestory windows were utilized throughout the second floor. And, finally, in order to conserve space while maintaining an inviting, acoustically-private setting, gasketed sliding doors were utilized at all exam rooms.
