| The surgery expansion
designed by Artekna for Riverview in 1990 included
a room for open heart surgery and shell space for
open heart recovery; however, the open heart program
was not initiated until 2001. This project involved
the construction of a 5-bed open heart recovery
suite within the shell space, a new nuclear cardiology
department, a second cardiac catheterization lab,
a cardiology short stay suite, and a cardiology
waiting room.
The development of the open heart program has
been very successful for Riverview and has allowed
them to effectively compete with the nearby Indianapolis
cardiology programs.
